"A Place Where Everyone is valued"

Youth Summit

Our Year 5 representatives attended the 2026 Youth Summit at Leeds Civic Hall. They travelled by train together with Mrs Butler and Mrs Naylor and enjoyed a fun packed day learning all about being a councillor in our City.
The day started with a dance performance from a community dance group, followed by a workshop around democracy. The children posed thoughtful questions and then shared their thoughts around the opportunities for children and young peoples voice and influence in Leeds and how this could be improved.
Before lunch, all pupils took part in human bingo which was great fun and enabled children to meet other children from across the City.
Lunch was a big hit and gave the children the fuel to take part in a workshop where they had the difficult job of thinking how they would spend £35,000 of the Youth Fund on activities in their area. Finally, we moved into the Council Chamber and enjoyed a Q&A session with some councillors and then met Councillor Dan Cohen who is currently the Lord Mayor of Leeds. We learnt lots about his journey into politics and had the chance to ask some questions about his current role.
