Reception

Year 1

We have been reading some stories from the Christian and Islamic faith. This half term we have read the Islamic story - The Crying Camel. The Crying Camel teaches that no matter how small or large animals maybe they are all important to God and need to be cared for. Our task was to think carefully about the events in the story and sequence what happened.

Year 2

We have spent lots of time identifying things that are special to us and talking about why they mean so much. We have also looked at some important religious artifacts. We worked in groups to sort them into the religion that they belong to. We thoroughly enjoyed this challenge.

Year 3

The children in Year 3 have been learning about how Jewish people celebrate Passover and the story of Moses. We have created our own celebration Seder plates and explained the importance of each item placed on them. We also discussed how the Jewish community in Leeds would celebrate.

Year 4

Our year 4 have been lucky enough to have enjoyed learning about Divali from our very own Mrs Rathod. Mrs Rathod shared the story of Divali along with her own experiences about this special religious festival.

Year 5

The Children in Year 5 have been investigating the creation story from the perception of those who follow a religion and those that don’t have any religious beliefs. We have looked at how the creation story differ and how there are similarities between some of the faiths. As a class we have talked about our own beliefs and our friends’ beliefs. This has taught us about the importance of listening to each other and how sharing our ideas helps us to understand one another.

Year 6

In year six we have been learning about inspirational people and what makes them so inspiring.  We are learning about world war two and have been investigating the life of Irena Sendler who along with a group of friends saves 2500 Jewish children from the concentration camps. We have also been finding about Malalah Yousefzai, a Muslim woman, who as a young girl stood up for her beliefs and put her own life in danger. As a result of this Malalah’s bravery and  determination has helped thousands of young people around the world.
