Eco Club

Eco Club is offered to children in Year 2 through to Year 6. The club now runs as a lunchtime club on a Thursday.

At Seven Hills Primary School we are striving to become a more sustainable school. We currently hold the Bronze Eco-Schools Award and this year our aim is to gain the Silver Award.

In order to involve the children more in sustainable issues we now have an Eco-Club, where children are involved in sharing their thoughts, completing environmental reviews, making decisions and planning how we can promote recycling and saving energy across the school.

To help them in this I have also recruited 'Secret Sustainability Spies' throughout school and they will be feeding back to me each term about what they have observed in their classes and around school. This will help Eco-Club to prioritise areas which we need to develop further.

In Eco-Club we have been very busy since we got together in November 2011. We completed an environmental review and this helped us to look at the areas that we need to address in order for our school to become more sustainable in the future. We found that a lot of the labels around school that acted as reminders have now become lost and therefore one of our priorities this half term will be to make some new ones.

In October we raised some money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity where we each donated money in return for a daffodil to grow. On February 9th 2012 we presented an assembly to the whole school about the charity. We taught everyone about who she was, why a charity was set up in her name, and where the money raised might go to.
Below are some pictures of us during our assembly.

Here is our assembly centrepiece. We had some daffodils to show the changes that took place. We also played a game of true or false to help children learn about the charity and some of the facts.

Here are some paintings that we created of a daffodil to celebrate our Marie Curie Fundraising.

Here are some of the fact cards that we used to tell people about the Marie Curie Charity and where some of our money may be spent.

We had lots of fun preparing the assembly and rehearsing. We would like to present another assembly in the future.

WELL DONE ECO-CLUB, YOU DID A GREAT JOB!
